ACCESS Testing

East End will be participating with schools across South Carolina in ACCESS testing during the testing window of January 27 – March 13 for English Language Learners.   ACCESS stands for “Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State.”    The PTA (Performance Task Assessment) with ACCESS will be administered February 18th - March 5th.    Anita Richardson, assistant principal, is our testing coordinator.    Paige Holliday is our ESOL teacher who will administer the testing.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Richardson at 397-1712.

Information shared from Mrs. Amy Turner, SDPC Coordinator of Federal and Special Programs:

According to federal guidance for English Learners and Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), all students who have been identified as English Learners must have their English proficiency assessed once per year until they are considered fully English proficient and meet the criteria to exit the ESOL program. This includes students whose parents have opted them out of direct ESOL services. In order to meet this requirement, your child will take the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs this semester. ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency assessment for students in grades K–12. The test measures the English language development of students identified as English language learners.

Students will be tested between January 27, 2020 and March 13, 2020. You will receive a score report and additional information about how your child performed on the assessment at the beginning of the next school year. Scores from this test are used to monitor student progress, establish when ELs have attained English language proficiency according to state criteria, and inform classroom instruction.

Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions.
