April 5th Update to EEE Families

April 5, 2020

Dear East End Families,

I am writing to thank you for your super support during our first two weeks of digital learning.  Without your assistance, it would be impossible for our students to meet with success during our virtual learning.    I am sharing a few updates to help you this week.  These days away from school are crucial in keeping our students on track and prepared for the future years in school.   Thank you for your help in making sure that your child is participating 100% each day.

The South Carolina Department of Education has issued guidelines to assist all school districts in grading students’ work during this time of school closure.  Our focus at the beginning of this remote learning was on establishing our procedures and getting the digital learning relationships and outreach going.  We will be in touch soon with additional information.  Let me assure you that these procedures are very student friendly and supportive to them and you at this time.  Please do not let student grades be a concern.   Students will not score less than they did on the third nine weeks for their grades during this time of learning during school closure.   Students can improve their grades, but will not face a decrease or penalty for these days of digital learning.   Their grade during this time will be at least the grade they scored for the third nine weeks.  Again, I will have more information to share soon.   I wanted to assure you that grading is not a focus.  We want our students learning and succeeding.  We are most concern that the learning that we to take place the last weeks of school will take place the Webex sessions and student learning on Schoology and in their work packets.

Another big change is that we have been successful in having our school phone calls rollover to Mrs. TJ Ouvry, secretary, while we are out of school.  She will answer our calls, take messages and point you in the right direction as you need to reach out to the school.  Please call (864) 397-1700 to reach Mrs. Ouvry.   We are thrilled to have this additional way of helping our East End families.

Our spring break will begin this Friday, April 10th.  This week of digital learning will be Monday – Thursday.  Friday is an inclement weather day followed by the next week being spring break.  Online learning and work with the packets will stop on Thursday, April 9th and resume on Monday, April 20th.    Please continue supporting your child in logging into his or her teacher’s Webex sessions each day at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.   As time allows, I enjoy going into the sessions and “seeing” the students.   We encourage everyone to join in at 3:00 p.m. daily for our school wide assembly to announce the Golden Coin Winners each day.  During our digital learning, we have six winners each day.   It is always a great time to see our students!

We received permission from the district to distribute Chromebooks to second graders.   We believe this will be a huge support to these students as we continue with our digital learning.   Second grade parents received notification of this and will have additional details coming about the curbside distribution on Wednesday, April 8th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  This will be our only day of distribution.  We ask that all second grade parents make plans to be at the school for the pick-up at the time noted on the information distributed to second grade parents.  Second grade parents, please be looking for additional information coming.

I encourage each of you to take advantage of the breakfast and lunch program that will continue even through the inclement weather day and spring break.   The link to the times of bus delivery for the food is at:  http://www.pickens.k12.sc.us/UserFiles/Servers/Server_137456/File/Departments/Transportation/EASLEY%20%20ROUTES%20329.pdf

I miss our sweet students so much!   I am eager for the day we are back on campus with our regular schedule and normal routines.  During this time of closure, I am forever indebted to each of you for your help!   I am again attaching our contact information with this e-mail so that you will have a handy reference to reach any of us during these days of school closure.

If we can help, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please stay safe and well!
