At East End, we recognition the importance of reading through the summer months.  Research has shown that students reading at a 3rd grade level or above should read 4-5 books during the summer to prevent reading achievement losses. Those reading below a 3rd grade level should read 12-15 books during the summer. There is lots of research to document this “summer reading loss”. If you would like more information, Google  “summer reading loss”.

BB and Batson, East End’s bulldogs, want to encourage your child/children to join them in their very own summer reading program, BB and Batson’s Book Buddies. Let the dog days of summer be filled with adventures, mysteries, suspense, and surprises around every bend. Of course, a book can provide all those factors and much more. Attached is a summer reading log to track your reading. If you lose it or you need more log space, please use the media center website or a sheet of notebook paper to track your reading.

BB and Batson want to award those students that participate this summer with prizes both on an individual level and as a group for all who participate. Forms need to be returned to Mrs.  Day by August 31st.

· Each student that returns their summer reading log will receive a reward, recognition medal  and an extra recess with a cool, refreshing treat.

· The top person overall will be awarded and receive a special recognition.

· The top person in each grade level will receive  an award  and special recognition.

These forms are due to Mrs. Day in the office by August 31st.  The first day of school for 2018-2019 is  Monday, August 20th.  Winners will be announced after Labor Day.
